This biography tells the story of Mildred Babe Didrickson Zaharias, a woman who has been called the greatest woman athlete in the first half of the twentieth century. Born June 26, 1914 in South Texas, Babe grew up in poverty. As she grew up, she excelled at every sport she played, but was always told that she shouldn't play sports because it wasn't very ladylike. She ignored the status-quo, and in 1932, she won two gold medals and one silver medal in various track-and-field events. In 1947, Babe astounded the sports world when she won 17 straight golf titles. She chose the nickname Babe because Babe Ruth was her favorite sports hero. Includes photographs.
